Sunstone - knowledge base, jewelry
Properties of sunstone, physiological effects, zodiac signs and sunstone jewelry.
Sunstone is a plagioclase feldspar, which when viewed from certain directions exhibits a spangled appearance. Its small hematite crystals give it a strong, unique metallic shimmer. These small mineral inclusions usually have a common orientation, and light entering the stone is reflected from them at a common angle. This produces flashes of light when viewed from the right angle. This optical phenomenon is known as "aventurescence" and is what makes the sunstone so special and unique.
