Calcite is the main component of limestone and marble.
Calcite is a very common mineral, formed in many different ways. Even the stalactites in limestone caves are made up of crystalline calcite. It occurs in large, colourless crystals or in aggregates with other minerals. The famous cream-coloured Carrara marble is found in Italy. There are also transparent, colourless crystals called 'Icelandic patina'. There are also pink and green crystals. Calcite can be polished in staggered and polished forms.
